Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress welding cracks which easily occur at the gasket groove part when performing padding welding of stainless steel on the gasket groove of nozzle flange of pressure vessel, etc., by performing the welding of the outmost layer with an ultra-low-carbon stainless steel. CONSTITUTION: The stainless steel padding metal is constituted of a three-layer construction, and the padding welding is performed on the outmost third layer with a low-carbon stainless steel containing ≤0.03% C. Namely, to the gasket groove at the surface of flange base material 1, for example, SUS 309 padding metal 2 and another padding metal 3 of SUS 347 are pad-welded. Moreover, another ultra-low- carbon stainless steel SUS 347 containing ≤0.03% C is pad-welded on the surface and the third padding metal 5 is installed. As the carbon content is lowered, the niobium content is also lowered and the ductility is maintained under the same condition, and then, the deposition of chromium carbide or α phase can effectively be controlled.
